What Pure Matrimony set out to do
Pure Matrimony positioned itself, credibly, as a matrimonial service for practising Muslims rather than the general Muslim population. It grew out of an Islamic education background, has been associated with well known da'wah teachers, and markets itself around a paid membership on the argument that a fee filters out the unserious and pays for proper vetting and support.
That argument has real merit. A membership requirement does deter time-wasters, and members often report a higher standard of seriousness than on free apps. If your priority is a global pool of practising Muslims and you are content to pay for that filter, it does what it says.
Why people look for a free Pure Matrimony alternative
Cost as a barrier to the sincere. A membership fee filters out the unserious, but it also filters out students, young graduates and single mothers who are entirely serious and simply cannot justify the outlay. Raibar takes a different route to the same goal: human admin review and live selfie verification, rather than a paywall, as the filter.
Global reach, local need. Pure Matrimony's audience spans the UK, North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. A British Bengali family usually needs a family within driving distance, and cultural specifics that a worldwide practising-Muslim pool cannot express.
Bengali specifics. Practice level matters enormously, but so does whether both families are Sylheti, whether Bengali is spoken at home, and which district the grandparents came from. Raibar carries both sets of fields.
Paying before you know if anyone is there. With a paid platform you commit first and discover the local pool second. On Raibar you can browse the actual member base before you decide to bother.
Raibar and Pure Matrimony compared
Cost. Raibar: free, no membership. Pure Matrimony: membership based, so check their site for current pricing.
Seriousness filter. Raibar: manual admin approval of every profile, live selfie verification with photo ID, mandatory nickname and photo rules for brothers. Pure Matrimony: payment plus its own vetting.
Audience. Raibar: British Bengali Muslims in the UK. Pure Matrimony: practising Muslims internationally.
Islamic fields. Both take deen seriously. Raibar records sect, madhab, prayer frequency, hijab and beard, Islamic education, revert status and halal-only diet.
Cultural fields. Raibar adds Bengali dialect, Bangladeshi district of origin and UK city, which a global platform generally cannot.
Wali handling. Raibar shows profile creator attribution and gates Mahram contact details behind your approval.
How Raibar keeps standards without charging
The honest challenge to a free platform is quality, so it is worth being specific about the controls. Every new profile is read by an admin before it becomes visible. Verification requires a live selfie with photo ID captured in the browser, not an upload, so the badge cannot be faked with a borrowed image. Brothers cannot appear in search without a photo. Nicknames are mandatory, so nobody browses as "anonymous". Blocking is enforced in the database, meaning a blocked member cannot message you through any route. Private photos stay blurred until you release them to a named member.
None of that requires a subscription. It requires a small enough community that a human can still look at every profile, which is exactly what a single-community platform allows.
Practising and Bengali, not one or the other
Many British Bengali Muslims who have become more practising than their parents' generation describe the same problem: general Bengali matrimonial routes do not filter for deen, and practising-Muslim platforms do not understand Bengali family life. You end up choosing which half of yourself to search on.
Raibar is designed so you do not have to. Filter for a sister who prays five times and wears hijab, from a Sylheti family in east London, whose profile is held by her mother. Or a brother following the Hanafi madhab with Islamic education, based in Birmingham, whose family originates from Comilla. Both halves in one query.
When Pure Matrimony is the better choice
If you are not Bengali, you want a practising Muslim spouse anywhere in the world, or you specifically believe a paid barrier improves the pool, Pure Matrimony is the right choice. Raibar is for practising British Bengali Muslims who want depth on both deen and culture, locally, without paying to make contact.
Getting started
Add a photo, choose a nickname, select your gender, enter your date of birth, town or city and WhatsApp number, then create your account with email or Google sign-in. An admin reviews the profile, usually within 24 hours. Add your Islamic details, madhab, prayer frequency, Islamic education, dialect, district and Mahram information afterwards, and get verified whenever you are ready.
