What Salams is
Salams launched as Minder, an explicitly Muslim take on the swipe-based dating app, and grew into one of the larger Muslim matchmaking apps with its strongest base in the United States and Canada. It is well built, has a young membership, and made online matchmaking feel normal to a generation of Muslims who would never have used a matrimonial website.
If you are in North America, comfortable leading your own search, and happy with an app that surfaces one profile at a time, it does its job. Its scale also means you rarely run out of profiles, which is a real advantage over any single-community platform.
Why British Bengali users look elsewhere
The pool is on another continent. UK members exist but the density is thinner, and a match in Chicago or Toronto is not a practical proposition for a family in Birmingham that expects the two households to meet before anything is agreed.
Swipe mechanics fight marriage decisions. A card stack rewards a fast judgement on a photograph. Marriage compatibility turns on prayer, madhab, family expectations, location and whether a wali is involved, and none of that survives compression into a swipe.
Match-gated contact. On app-style platforms you cannot start a conversation until both sides have expressed interest blind. Raibar lets you write to anyone, because a serious matrimonial approach with a clear message is not an intrusion.
Family arrives late. The app model assumes two individuals talk first and families are informed later. In most British Bengali families the mother or elder sister is running the search from day one.
Paid tiers. Like most apps in the category, Salams offers upgrades for visibility and extra features. Check their app for current pricing. Raibar has no tiers, so nothing about your experience depends on payment.

Everything free on Raibar
Profile creation with photos, unlimited browsing, every filter, favourites and shortlists, unlimited two-way messaging with typing indicators, optional WhatsApp contact, live selfie verification, blurred private photos released per member, blocking enforced at database level, and the installable home screen app with push notifications for messages, visits and favourites.
App convenience without the app store
If what you liked about Salams was the phone experience, Raibar keeps that part. It installs to your home screen straight from the browser as a progressive web app, sends push notifications when someone messages you, views your profile or favourites you, and shows realtime typing indicators in chat. There is no download, no app store account and no subscription managed through your phone bill.
What changes is the shape of the decision. Instead of judging a photo in a second, you read a profile that states city, dialect, practice level, marital status and who created it, then decide whether to write.
When Salams is the better choice
Stay with Salams if you are based in North America, you are not Bengali, or you prefer running your own search app-style without family involvement early on. Raibar makes sense for British Bengali Muslims who want full profiles, free contact, and elders in the process from the beginning.
Getting started
Add a photo, choose a nickname, select your gender, enter your date of birth, town or city and WhatsApp number, then create your account with email or Google sign-in. An admin reviews the profile, usually within 24 hours, and you can browse and message straight after. Dialect, district, madhab, prayer frequency, education and Mahram details can be added later.
